Flying with Baby on Ryanair
Ryanair is Europe’s largest airline — and with a baby, there are special rules. Here’s what matters.
Lap Infant: Costs and Rules
- Fee: approx. 25 EUR per leg (Lap Infant Fee)
- Age: 8 days to under 2 years
- Max. 2 babies per adult: But only 1 on the lap — the second needs their own seat
- Loop belt: Provided on board
Important: Each adult can only have one baby on their lap. If you’re flying as a couple with twins, each parent needs a separate booking.
Carry-On
This is where Ryanair gets tight:
- No additional carry-on for the baby — the baby has no carry-on allowance
- Baby food: Can be brought additionally (exempt from liquid rule)
- Diaper bag counts as your personal item
Tip: Book Priority Boarding — you get a large carry-on AND a small personal item.
Stroller and Buggy
- Free: 1 buggy or stroller per child transported free of charge
- Gate-check: Yes, you can take the stroller to the gate
- Return: At baggage claim (not at the gate)
Note: The stroller must be foldable and under 20 kg.
What Ryanair Does NOT Offer
- No bassinet — not even on longer routes
- No pre-orderable baby meals
- No family seat reservation — but Ryanair often seats families with children under 12 together (not guaranteed)
- No family boarding — some airports offer it independently
Car Seats
An approved car seat is allowed if you’ve booked a separate seat. Ryanair accepts most infant car seats.
